PRIVACY NOTICE

How PSO Boston Local Union handles what you tell us — on this website, on our member sites, and in the PSO Boston app.

Last updated September 25, 2026

The short version

Who we are

PSO Boston Local Union, United Federation LEOS-PBA, representing Protective Security Officers at federal buildings in Boston. Questions about this notice go to [email protected].

What we run

All of it runs on servers the Local controls. None of it is a third-party platform that mines your data.

What we collect, and why

If you join the mailing list

Your name, email address and, if you give it, your building. We email a link to confirm the address is yours before anything is sent. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and using it stops the emails for good.

If you send a concern or report

What you write, any photos or documents you attach, and — unless you send it anonymously — your name and contact details. Anonymous reports are exactly that: we have no way to trace them back to you.

If you file a grievance

Your name, email, phone, work site, the account you create, what you tell us about the grievance, and any evidence you attach. We also record the date and time you filed it, the internet address it came from and the type of device, because a grievance is a formal record and its timing can matter.

If you sign a dues checkoff card

Your name, phone, email, your signature as you drew it, the date you signed, and the time, internet address and device the card came from. That record is what makes the card stand up if the employer questions the deduction. The signed card is sent to the International, which is the point of signing it.

Membership and dues records

Your name, contact details, employee number, work site, hire and seniority dates, membership status, and what dues have been deducted or paid. Employer remittance files we import are kept as they arrive.

Emails we send you

We record whether a message was delivered, opened, and whether links in it were clicked. We use that to tell whether members are actually getting important notices — not to build a profile. Opens are recorded by a small invisible image; blocking remote images in your mail app stops it.

Signing in

We keep sign-in times, the internet address and the device description, and failed attempts. That is ordinary security record-keeping: it is how we spot someone trying to get into a member's account.

The PSO Boston app

The app talks only to our own servers. There is no advertising, no analytics service and no tracking across other apps or websites.

Closing your account

You can ask from the app — Account → Close my account — or by telling any local union rep. A rep reviews the request and then removes your name, email, phone and answers, and signs your phone out everywhere.

The grievances themselves stay on file with your name removed. That is deliberate: a grievance is the Local's record of what was filed, what management said and what was done about it, and we may need it long after you have gone — including for members who come after you. If you have an open grievance, speak to a rep before closing your account, because you will no longer be able to read the replies.

Who sees what

How long we keep it

Keeping it safe

Everything is served over an encrypted connection. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Evidence you upload is kept outside the public web folder and served only to you and to reps. Rep accounts can use two-factor sign-in, and rep activity is logged.

No system is perfect. If we ever discover a breach affecting member information, we will tell the members affected.

Your choices

Ask by emailing [email protected] or by speaking to any local union rep.

Children

These sites and the app are for members and applicants for membership. They are not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this notice changes in a way that matters, we will say so on the website and, where it affects members directly, by email.
